Sources & method

The evidence belongs on the map, too.

How we select institutions, distinguish facts, and record what cannot yet be confirmed.

No single directory is sufficient

We reconcile the seed report with legislation, budget records, transition reports, official directory cards, and institutional pages. Source type matters: a statute establishes powers; an institutional page describes services; a nomination documents one step in an appointment process.

A profile’s source-consultation date records documentation work. Map relationships carry their own evidence. Profiles with incomplete basic reconciliation are labeled “Under research” and excluded from games.

Different dates answer different questions

  • Publication: when the document was published, if the source states it.
  • Consultation: when the source was retrieved or reviewed, not its own update date.
  • Appointment, confirmation, and term: separate events for an office. Unknown dates remain unconfirmed.

Alerts indicate that review is due; age alone does not make a fact false. An HTTP 403 or automated-access block also does not establish that a source has disappeared.

Federal inclusion requires evidence of an office, regional jurisdiction, or program responsibility in Puerto Rico. This is not a census of every federal office or every public position. Historical profiles are retained to recognize former names.

The coverage register records inclusion decisions, exclusions, and disagreements. Budget and transition documents use different inventories; their counts are not automatically adopted as directory totals.

What remains open

Many board rosters and terms need further reconciliation. An absent list does not imply absent members, and a published roster is not assumed to remain current.

ASES and UPR’s Board pages disagree about AAFAF leadership. The ASES profile records the conflict and avoids certifying the roster as current.

Data you can inspect

The site, map, and games share stable institutional identifiers. The dataset includes references and research statuses; downloading it does not turn pending claims into verified facts.
